AYRES Muffler Brake and Alignment Can Replace Your Catalytic Converter

Here is a 2004 Toyota Prius. Our certified car technician is replacing two catalytic convertors. The timing for replacement has a lot to do with the care and maintenance of your vehicle (think of this as a friendly reminder to maintain your engine and check your fluid levels regularly). This Prius was brought into us with an error code for catalytic convertor inefficiency.

This particular car has two catalytic converters, so our car repair tech is in the process of replacing both. As you can see in this picture there is a catalytic converter on both ends.

In this photo you can see where the catalytic converter goes underneath the car.

Catalytic converters are required in all vehicles by federal law. They are required to pass smog tests. There is a belief in counties where there is no smog testing that catalytic converters are optional. In fact, it is a federal law, and they must still be installed. Car owners found to have removed their catalytic converters can face up to a $10,000 fine!

AYRES Muffler Brake and Alignment Specializes in All Types of Muffler Work

We thought we’d use this 1963 Buick Riviera as our example to go into more detail about mufflers. We noticed from some of our past posts there were some strong feelings and a few questions about mufflers, as well as the idea of AYRES removing them from cars completely.

To answer some of the questions real quick, yes it is completely safe to remove a muffler from a car. However, without a muffler the car will be much louder. This is a personal preference of the owner/driver, not AYRES Muffler Brake and Alignment. Just like cars driving down the street with very loud music or base, that is the preference of the owner.

If you have any other questions about installing a new muffler or removing the muffler from your vehicle, give us a call to schedule an appointment today.

AYRES Muffler Brake and Alignment Specializes in Alignments on Fleet Vehicles

Chevy Blazer City of Sparks Alignment

This Chevy Blazer was brought to AYRES Muffler Brake and Alignment by the City of Reno. We are doing an alignment on this vehicle as one of the employees was complaining the vehicle was pulling to one side.

Poor alignment is important to watch out for. Besides possibly causing your fleet vehicle to shake or pull to one side, it can also cause uneven or rapid tire wear leading to costly tire replacement much sooner than budgeted.
